I’ve been lusting over the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation for the longest time, and when I finally did get my hands on it, best day ever! Now I actually fell in love after seeing ViviannaDoesMakeup rave about it on her videos and blog, and one of my favourite Youtubers, TanTricks also has reviewed this on her channel. Many a beauty guru Including Kim K who isn’t one too, have made this their HG foundation, and I was naturally curious as to why, hence I purchased it. BTW, at the risk of going slightly off topic, must say, I love TanTricks’s videos, though she doesn’t post up too frequently.
Anyway, I picked up the LMSF in the shade 8, and this was a very carefully thought out decision based on multiple online swatches and reviews. I was gunning for the 7.5 or 8.5, but somehow I felt the 8 would be a much better match considering my yellow undertones. This was purchased off Sephora.com as it isn’t available in Malaysia, as most amazing beauty products are, FML.
The LMSF is available in a whopping 25 shades, covering all shades & undertones. It is pricey, retailing at USD 62. (approx RM275 at our current horrible exchange rates, 4.38 mind you!) The foundation is described to be a weightless, hydrating foundation, leaving a silky texture and an all-day, buildable coverage. This is the only Armani foundation that contains no SPF, which means you have to layer it up with a base of sun protection during the day.
Packaging is certainly a 5 star win, with the heavy frosted glass bottle and pump, I have zero complaints in this area. Thank goodness it comes with a pump, because if a foundation doesn’t come with a pump I will think twice about repurchasing it. The pump disperses just the right amount, as 1 pump is all I need to cover my full face. Each bottle contains 30 ml of product, so this can last you, say 2-3 months of daily use? I use it irregularly as I switch it up with my Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum now and then.
When I got the foundation, I was slightly horrified as I thought I’d picked a foundation which was way too dark, but swatching and testing it out on my face proved me wrong.
As you can see, it is a foundation with warm undertones that suit my yellowy-brown skin. Lets see how it fares on my actual face shall we?
Before shots. Yes, this is bare faced me with my acne scars and all for show, including messy hair day. As you can see, my skin is slightly dull at the moment, as all that stress buildup I’m dealing with isn’t doing me any good.
My skin after 1 layer of the foundation. Now, my uneven skin tone is gone, acne scars look less visible and everything just looks slightly smoother. Coverage wise, it does say medium, but using just one layer gives you a sheer natural looking cover, so if you need more coverage, feel free to build it up. Personally, I just go over my problem spots with concealer and I’m okay to go! I apply this with my Zoeva 102 Silk Finish brush, and I buff it in with the RT Buffing brush. There isn’t a noticeable scent to the foundation, so that’s a good thing too, although I do like the Bourjois ones for the extra fruity scent! ❤
This foundation is on the thinner side but it is not watery or runny. The thin texture makes spreading and blending very easy and it does blend with a natural skin-like appearance and a lightweight feeling.
It dries to a semi matte finish, meaning its not entirely matte, and there is some dewy looking thing going on, which kind of looks like I’m not wearing any foundation, so all hail natural beauty ! 😀 Its just one of those foundations that truly enhances skin rather than covering it up. It lasts all freaking day too, but I do get oily around the 5-6 hour mark, so I just blot and touch up if need be.
Since this foundation doesn’t need additional mattifying properties, I usually go over it with my Guerlain Meteorites for a final touch of powder for added glow & luminosity. And if I’m feeling extra wonderful, I’ll add half a pump of my Charlotte Tilburry Wonderglow into the foundation mix and blend them together for a seamless, glowy look.
This foundation photographs beautifully, which doesn’t surprise me, as the queen of selfies herself (Kim K that is for the uninitiated) proclaims this as her HG foundation. Something about the way this foundation diffuses light makes it so photographable.
Overall, I really love this foundation and it has made it to the top 5 foundations I love list. (PS: Remind me to write about that list yeah? ) This foundation is definitely worth the price, and whilst I do urge you guys to pick it up, make sure you colour match yourself correctly as not doing so would be a very costly mistake. Wrapping things up like a samosa wtf, I’d tell you guys, if you guys are stuck on a desert island with only one foundation to bring, this is the one you should take! ❤
The Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation retails for USD62/30ml and is available through Sephora.com, and most online shopping sites like Selfridges.com.
Until I see you guys again 🙂
