Weekend Getaway : Pattaya (Part 1)

Hey everyone,

I realize it’s been a while since I’ve written anything in here. Hope I still remember how things work, lol! *blows dust and cobwebs away* I guess I have been pre-occupied with work & life in general which has left me with not much time to pen any of my thoughts down. (Though much of it has been immortalized on my Twitter profile)  I have been doing some occasional, random creative writing, but that’s a post for another day.

For now, I’d like to tell you guys about my recent trip to Pattaya, Thailand.  Now, I can’t remember for the life of me, the last time I took a trip or a holiday anywhere, meaning I was long overdue for a getaway surely. I last visited Thailand as a child, and that was at least 10 years ago, so much has changed in this decade. For this trip, I took a quick 3 days 2 nights trip to Pattaya, so I’ll be breaking the trip down for you lot into two separate posts for ease of reading.

Pattaya is located by the sea and beaches, and surrounded by beautiful high rise buildings, with plenty of locality, so I definitely as looking forward to a sunny beach getaway.

So let me tell you what went down on day 1 & 2, shall I?

DAY 1:

To begin with, I took an Air Asia flight from Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA2) on a sunny Friday afternoon. Just so you guys know, Air Asia only recently launched direct flights to Pattaya, on July 15 this year, so that’s great news for you guys!

The flight was approximately 1 hour & 55 minutes, so it was a very quick flight. I barely had time to settle down for a nap, and voila, Pattaya was upon us!  Flights wise, Air Asia provides return flights to Pattaya 4 times a week, with really cheap seats too, as low as MYR 250 and below (just make sure you book your flights ahead of schedule, and do lookout for AA’s special offers and discounts!)

AK 840 KUL – UTP 1430 hrs – 1525 hrs (Mon, Wed, Fri, Sun)
AK 841 UTP – KUL 1555 hrs – 1900 hrs (Mon, Wed, Fri, Sun)

We landed in the U-Tapao Rayong-Pattaya Airport, which is about 45 minutes away from the city centre. Its a rather small airport, so don’t expect a huge building 🙂  You can get cabs, buses and rental vans from the airport to the city, so getting around wont be much of an issue. From the airport, we made our way to our hotel, the lovely Courtyard Marriott located  on Pratamnak Hill, South Pattaya Road via a van.

The weather was rather warm, much warmer than Malaysia I reckon, so it may be wise to pack loose clothing with thin layers. I’d hazard temperatures were around 26 Celcius-ish ? I made the mistake of layering up in thick denim, so don’t do what I did. 😀

The hotel room was gorgeous, with a view overlooking the city’s busy landscape. Room rates range from MYR 250/per night for a Superior bedroom, and above, accordingly for more exclusive rooms. Isn’t the room simple gorgeous? See if you spot the elephant in the room ❤

I only wish I had more time to spend in the room since the bed was so fluffy, but that wouldn’t do, would it?

Dinner that night was a feast prepared by the hotels’ esteemed chef in the MoMo Cafe located on the ground floor . Some of the highlights include the below. Obviously there was more food on the dinner table, however in my hunger and haste, I forgot to take pictures the spread. The food was absolutely delicious, and I only wish I had more room in my tummy to eat up!

Clockwise: MoMo Cafe dining area, Fried Sunflower Seeds & Orchids, Grilled Mushrooms

Post dinner, it was time for a walk at the infamous Walking Street, which is a mere 10 minutes walk away from the hotel. It is a tourist attraction that draws foreigners and Thai nationals, primarily for the night life. The areas specialties includes seafood restaurants, live music venues, beer bars, discothèques, sports bars, go-go bars, and nightclubs. If you’re looking for a fun night out, this is definitely the place to be!

Clockwise from left: Walking Street, Bright lights in Walking Street, le me getting a foot massage after all that walking and touring (200THB which is approx MYR 25), and a Turkish Ice Cream Magic Show.

Well, that pretty much wrapped up day one of my trip, and I recall I was so exhausted I just passed flat out on the comfy beds. I swear, it felt like the beds were made out of clouds. 😀

DAY 2:

Woke up to a lovely day, I tell you, it gets so sunny here at 7 am, that one cant help but to wake up bright and early! After breakfast, we headed out to the first stop of the day, The Sanctuary of Truth.

The Sanctuary of Truth is locate about 35 mins from the city centre, and is a gigantic wooden construction and is about 105 meters high. The building was constructed according to ancient Thai ingenuity and every square inch of the building is covered with wooden carvings & sculptures. One might find it interesting that this whole structure is built with zero nails or screws, and only uses wooden joints!

The entrance fee is THB450 for adults, so it really is quite cheap to get in. Apart from visiting the Sanctuary of Truth structure, one can also enjoy horse rides, elephant rides, as well as going on a lake tour.

Nope, this isn’t the actual structure, just a smaller replica lol!

Optimized-The Sanctuary Of Truth Pattaya (1)

Now this is the actual one! It’s so magnificent and I was in awe of the complete structure.

Optimized-Sanctuary Of Truth

Meanwhile, on the inside of the building, carvings and sculptures galore.

The purposes of the wooden carvings sculptures are to use art and culture as the reflection of Ancient Vision of Earth, Ancient Knowledge, and Eastern Philosophy. Within this complex, visitors will understand the Buddhist theory of Ancient Life, Human Responsibility, Basic Thought, Cycle of living, Life Relationship with Universe and the Common Goal of Life toward Utopia.

I feel that the Sanctuary of Truth would be an amazing place to just relax, meditate and calm down from all the daily stresses we face.

To our surprise, there was a traditional Thai dance performance (happens each day at 11.30 am) so we were treated to some lovely music and performances by the gorgeous ladies in pink!

Next up, we headed to a local go-kart establishment for some fun in the sun! Personally, I’ve never been go karting, something about all that speed and racing that never appealed to my senses, but since I was on holiday, I figured, why not? YOLO lol!

A pose with the go-karts are a must! 😀

Optimized-Go Kart

And we have lift off! ❤ The whole experience was quite interesting, as go karting does give off this amazing adrenalin rush, as well as need for speed. But after a few laps, the sun started to scorch me, and I had to say sayonara to the race track. I figure anyone should give go-karting a go, at least once in a lifetime!

And if the race track is empty, this shot is a must have!

Lunch was at the breathtaking Glasshouse Restaurant, located about 25 minutes away from the city center. The Glasshouse Restaurant is romantic and hidden spot, away from the hustle and bustle of the city, where the beach and sands await. Imagine having dinner while the waves are heard in the background and the sea breeze wafts through the air? Gosh, that sounds divine!

Optimized-2nd Day Lunch at The Glasshouse Restaurant

All the food we had from that lunch! So many yummy dishes, we just had to try them all! My favourite was the fish for sure! The restaurant not only offers western dishes, but wonderful seafood dishes as well!

Optimized-2nd Day Lunch at The Glasshouse Restaurant (2)

Meanwhile, this wraps up Part 1 of my Pattaya post. I will be back with Part Two soonest, so stay tuned. Personally, I think Pattaya is a great place to visit if you need a quick trip away from your daily life, and to recharge your batteries, so if you’re intrigued and interested for a short beach getaway, do head on over to AirAsia.com to start booking your flights!

Much love,

In life we all have an unspeakable secret,
an irreversible regret,
an unreachable dream and an unforgettable love.

Most days, I feel invisible, like it wouldn’t matter if I vanished from the face of the earth.
Some days, I feel like the most loved person in the world. Today is one of those lucky days.

Thank you for bringing a piece of heaven to me.

I Am Back

Hello all you sexy faces! 🙂

I realize I’ve slacked off considerably on this blog for the past 2 weeks, and I do apologize for my tardiness. Truth is, I’ve been meaning to write a post for a while, and I’ve have actually got at least 5 blog drafts collecting dust somewhere in the back burner. Issue at hand being, I’ve not been in a proper state to talk beauty and reviews for a while now. I know that sounds serious, but it truly isn’t in light of everything else going on in this world.  I’ve been rather in deep thought, and I’ve pretty much shut down into myself while figuring out what is going on in my life right now.

Call it an epiphany, call it mid life crisis, I don’t really know. Sometimes life throws you a massive curveball, and you try your best to dodge it, but life sucks so it hits you right in the face, and you wake up feeling dazed, and somehow like a brand new person. That’s pretty much what has happened to me.

I woke up one day realizing that I’ve been saying no to so many opportunities that have presented themselves in my life, and why I keep pushing them away is beyond me? Is fear holding me back? Am I too worried to step out of my comfort zone? Be it career choices, love, relationships, new experiences in life, I’ve been holding back on so much. I haven’t the faintest clue, but what I do know is that I need to change, and I’ve been trying to say yes to almost any new thing coming my way. I hate saying this, but YOLO is the way to for me, for now at least.

I’ve also hung on too long onto things that have not given me the happiness that I was seeking, and while doing so, lost on opportunities to actually find the actual things that will make me a happier person. So yes, a lot of cutting off dead limbs and branches too. It hasn’t been easy doing so, since people do hang onto things for a reason, and giving them up is never easy.

I’ve made a lot of decisions that I’ve regretted recently *cue judgmental stares here*,  some that I have ended up loving, and I’m a better person now for it. There’s this quote I wanted to share with you guys which I found online, which spoke to me very deeply, and it has somewhat changed my way of thinking of the people who are, have been, and will be in my life.

“One day you meet someone and for some inexplicable reason, you feel more connected to this stranger than anyone else- closer to them than your closest family. Perhaps this person carries within them an angel- one sent to you for some higher purpose; to teach you an important lesson or to keep you safe during a perilous time. What you must do is trust in them- even if they come hand in hand with pain or suffering -the reason for their presence will become clear in due time.”

“Though here is a word of warning-you may grow to love this person but remember they are not yours to keep. Their purpose isn’t to save you but to show you how to save yourself. And once this is fulfilled; the halo lifts and the angel leaves their body as the person exits your life. They will be a stranger to you once more.”

-Lang Leav

I found those words to ring very true, especially with all the comings, goings, and goodbyes that I’ve been experiencing recently. People come for a reason, and they have to go for a reason. It doesn’t matter what those reasons are, just remember that at the end of it all, you WILL come out stronger, wiser, and more beautiful than before. Speaking from someone who is going through a lot of emotional upheaval right now, I can tell you that you will be okay. It doesn’t matter if you cant trust anyone else, just remember to always trust yourself.  You have a long journey ahead of you, and this moment, right now, is simply the beginning of that amazing journey.

All right, seems that I’m coming off a bit preachy and philosophical here 😀 ,pardon me, but I had to share my thoughts out before my brain just explodes with all these thoughts racing and pacing.

On top of everything aforementioned, I’ve set out a list of things that I simply must achieve in 2015, and I’ll share that list with you guys once I’m halfway there! I’ve got so much to do, and I’m excited to give them a go. Well at least I can check moving jobs off that list, so one down, 15 more to go!

Since you are reading this, tell me, have you felt/made a change or upheaval in your life recently? What or whom inspired that change?

I’m going to sign off for now, since I have to start my day now. 🙂 I do promise a beauty post coming soon!
Talk to you guys soon! Lots of love ❤

Another Terrible Customer Service Rant : Goodbye Tesco Online!

I think I’m going to open a new category on this blog called “bad customer service corner”  since I blog about the topic too frequently these days. I don’t see why decent (not great, but just simply decent) customer service is so difficult to get. Anyway, am going to rant away because bad customer service deserves to be talked about and to be shared.

So you see, I shop online a lot, including getting my groceries online. Usually, I get them off Tesco Online, and I’ve been using their service with no issues for a while now. I usually opt for a delivery slot which has zero service charge, though the timings are sometimes quite inconvenient.

Today, I was supposed to have my groceries delivered around the 4pm-6pm slot. Lo and behold, they arrived wheee! But imagine my surprise when my bill had an additional RM10 tacked onto it! This has never happened before. Now RM 10 is just a small amount, probably the cost of one meal to regular people, but since that wasn’t the amount I agreed upon when purchasing online, so imagine my annoyance!

So I tracked my shopping to find out what happened. Let me show you the whole process of shopping at Tesco Online.

1. You pick your groceries, and add to your cart.
2. Choose a delivery slot.
3. Confirm total amount and checkout.
4. Wait to receive your groceries, and payment options are only by credit card.

So I did 1 & 2. And delivery slot examples look like these. I chose the 4pm slot on 22nd, which had RM0 charge.

tesco delivery slot

By the time I checked out, this was my confirmation. As you can see, my total was RM53.76. The thing is, I live by myself all alone lol, and there’s only so much groceries one can purchase at a time. So RM50-RM100 is usually how much I shop for in general every 2 weeks.

tesco delivery deets

So what was the RM10 for? According to the delivery guy, it seems that since my shopping total was less than RM200, I was supposed to pay RM10 for service & delivery fee.

So where was this mentioned in the website? I didn’t recall seeing it at all in the fine print or T&C’s.

The guy who delivered my groceries said that the website was still being updated to reflect the new service fee which was just implemented this week, and lucky me, I have to pay for Tesco’s incompetence and lack of website maintenance!

I called up the customer service hotline next. I spoke to a completely incompetent CSR who didn’t know anything about anything, which just served to up my annoyance level one more notch. The manager was completely hopeless too, since there was nothing he could do (and I don’t blame him anyway) so I gave up. The only information I got was that their website is being updated, and that the changes will reflect in one weeks time. And apparently I wasn’t the only pissed off customer.

So it seems that customers with Tesco Online now have to pay for their incompetence. A small amount, yet the principal of the issue is what pisses me off. If you cant be bothered to update your website to reflect the new changes and advise your customers what potential charges could be applied, then you don’t deserve an online shopping site.

Was it so difficult to add a line at the top of your site to say “Hey, you should pay RM10 for shopping less than RM200, and we forgot to update our site!”

Anyway, I’m swearing off Tesco Online & Tesco in general from now onwards, so that banned list is just getting longer and longer now.

Anyway, here is a public service message to my readers. If you get crappy customer service, TAKE YOUR MONEY ELSEWHERE. Seriously. If it isn’t the one store, I’m sure there are hundreds of stores out there who will respect you, and treat you like a real customer, and admit and rectify their mistakes rather than brushing it off.

Coming from me, who has worked in a customer service industry before, I’m telling you, you don’t have to tolerate this shit.
DEMAND GOOD SERVICE. #demandgoodservice
Anyway, that concludes the end of my rant.

I will be back to regular product review postings soon, so talk to you guys later! ❤

An annoyed Shashay.

Fears & Demons

The only thing we have to fear is fear itself. ~ Franklin D. Roosevelt

Hey guys. I’ve been meaning to write about this for a very long time, but because its such a close and personal topic to heart, I’ve been avoiding the subject entirely. Fears aren’t something we reveal freely, and even when we do, its to very few people, with much hesitation. Mine is only known to myself and my other half, & has been discussed in length over the years. I guess it time I finally talk about it and hope writing about it gives me some form of acceptance and solution.

I have a fear of driving.

Now that sounds simple enough doesn’t it? Just start a damn car, and drive it. How difficult could that be? Well, see below, and you’ll understand that it’s not THAT easy.

Symptoms include: Trembling, sweating, accelerated pulse, loss of sense of reality, and thoughts of losing control while driving, even in situations that are reasonably safe. This fear will cause many to avoid driving, create excuses to not drive, or even refuse to get a driver’s license for years.

I do have a real driver’s license, and I have driven before, with no fear whatsoever. Nowadays, I make excuses to not drive, and I have mini panic thoughts every time someone asks me to drive. When I do actually drive, I feel like I could black out anytime. I never tremble, not even when speaking in front of hundreds of people, but put me in the driver’s seat, and you’ll see me actually shaking. Thankfully I haven’t lost my sense of reality lol.

Why you may ask?

A while ago, 4 years ago, I met with an accident. Wasn’t a serious one, and I didn’t even have a scratch on me, but the ordeal was bad enough to turn me away from driving. I remember having nightmares after the accident, and I couldn’t sleep well for weeks. The reason I’m writing about my fear now is that I have a car now. It doesn’t belong to me, but it is mine to use anytime, anywhere. But its outside, collecting dust, rust, dirt and just being useless despite being a nice, shiny new car. Why should I let a great car go to waste simply because of my fear?

I’ve been forcing myself to drive the car, but every time I pick up the car keys, my heart feel likes it going to claw its way out of my chest. Dramatic, but true.

Its embarrassing, somewhat shameful, and downright frustrating sometimes. I mean, I have a car but I can’t drive it? WTF. I feel its unfair, because I can do anything in this world (including bungee jumping and cliff diving), but I can’t even do something as simple as driving a car. Moving past the ranting, to counter my phobia, I’ve been taking short drives, and trying to just feel and be “one with the car” as my other half would say lol, so wish me luck guys! Lets hope I can be zipping around town sometime soon. Hope it doesn’t take long.

Do tell me if you have faced any kind of fear, and if you managed to overcome it and how. Comments will be much appreciated, so do share your personal struggle with your inner demons. 😀

A Tale of Diets, Exercise & Weight Loss

Haroo awesomesauces!

I’m super excited to talk about today’s topic, simply because it has made quite a significant change in my life for the past 1.5 months! ❤

The truth is, ever since I was in a stable relationship, I’ve been lax in taking care of my diet and body. I simply must blame the food loving boyfie! :/ Anyway, fast forward 5 years later, I’ve put on about 4-5kg, which isn’t a lot, but from my original 40kg, I felt it was quite significant. Also, I noticed some flabs here and there, mostly on my bum, thigh & tummy. Now, nothing against chubby people, but I’d actually DIE before I put on weight, and go from an XXS to an XS. #firstworldproblems

And exercise was never in my books. Exercise was basically going up and down the stairs once in a blue moon. I always had excuses, I was too busy, too tired, too sleepy, etc. I always had a reason for being lazy. That was the problem.

It didn’t help that my boyfie was taking the mickey outta me, and me vice versa, lol! Hence I decided to do something proactive about my body & weight and start taking better care of myself. I didnt want to lose so much weight, I just needed to start eating healthier, and start exercising to tone up those flabs.

shashay exercise

First things first, I got rid of all the unhealthy food in my house. By getting rid, I meant I ATE IT ALL. Well, I cant throw them away now cant I? And I really didn’t wanna give that ice cream tub to anyone else 😀

Second thing I did was to look for some motivation. I did some reading on healthy eating (which I mostly was aware of, but just to remind myself of what a proper diet should look like), and also starting watching a lot of exercise & yoga videos on Youtube & Instagram. The second step took me a whole 2 weeks to be honest. To actually get my butt out of the chair and to start exercising was so difficult. I just couldnt. Call me lazy. But after 2 weeks, I was super gung-ho about the whole getting toned & fit idea.

Third thing? Actually doing some exercise. Now I didn’t have the money to join a gym, (I still don’t have the money lol) so I started off doing exercises in my house. I didn’t have any equipment either, nothing at all. Not even a yoga mat. So what exercises could I do?

These are examples of exercises I’ve been doing. Look out for more on Youtube.

I usually aim to do 30-45 mins each day, and I’d pick a few exercise that I want to do for the day. Like today, its was all about the legs, so I do only leg exercises. And these are simple exercises you can do on the floor, just with a towel as a mat in case you don’t have one. I alternate leg, love handles, belly, abs, arms, push ups etc.

How I started:

Week 1: I did my first 15 minutes on a Friday & Saturday, and my body ached throughout the whole of the following Sunday. I couldn’t move, literally. I hurt all week. But it seems that I am a sadist, so I continued with the exercise routine nevertheless. The pain subsided with hot showers after about 3-4 days.

Diet wise, this is what I ate.
Breakfast: Fruits with plain yogurt.
Lunch: Half rice (about 6-7 tablespoons of rice) with vegetables. No fried stuff allowed. Also add on some fruits for dessert.
Dinner: Biscuits, or oatmeal, or soup.
Also, lots and lots of water, and no other drinks.

Week 2: I continued with my exercises, and amped up the exercise time to 30 mins a day. Sometimes I miss a day or two, but that’s ok. As long as you get back up the saddle the next day, you’re good. to go Diet wise, still the same as week 1. I did slip up on my diet now and then as well. Whacked some curry noodles & a slice of cake (both my ultimate weaknesses)

Week 3-6: Still with my exercise & diet. Not much changed. I even continued exercising during the time of the month. I now was doing 30-45 mins at home, & 15 minutes at work too. At work? How? Me and a friend decided to use the empty storage room at the back, and turned it into a makeshift gym/yoga room. We usually do 15 min of yoga, stretches, planking & random exercises that we feel like. Its fun, and we can gossip & catch up while doing exercising. Also, PMS kicked in sometime during this period (geddit haha?), and I ended up eating a pint of Haagen Daaz all by myself. Sugar, why you do this to me??

vampire diaries caroline

Week 7 (Now) : Some difference noticed on the rear end & waist. I think the squats are working. My butt feels firmer, and the love handles are shrinking. I see my face looking a little less chubby. Le boyfie who visits once a month commented that I’ve lost some weight. And yes, the scales confirm I’ve lost 2kg already.  AWESOMESAUCE! I can even fit into a pants that I couldn’t fit into before. So much win! I’ve also maintained 30-45 mins every weekday, and 1 hour to 1.5 hours on the weekends.

I’m not gonna post before and after pictures yet, because I want to wait until I’ve been doing this for about 3 months at least. So far, I’m feeling good about this whole diet and exercise thing.

I look forward to the day I look at least 40% like this:

victoria secret model

So that is my long story of how I turned my diet & lifestyle around. It was not easy in the beginning, but after 1.5 months, its become part of my everyday routine, and I look forward to exercise time now!

What is your stance on diets, healthy eating & exercise? Do you exercise? If no, why not?

Dr Jason Leong. Managed to have a quick chat with him during the press con, and  may I say that he is super friendly!  And if you’re wondering what is his unique brand of comedy, its satire and political incorrectness! (My favourite!)
