Yogurt & Honey Hair and Face Mask

Hello awesomesauces!

Fancy treating yourself to some all natural goodness? With all the amount of chemicals we’re exposed to on a daily basis, its always good to lay off the store bought products and become a kitchenista for a bit!

I love messing around in the kitchen, making home masks for myself and DIY’ing beauty recipes, since its very cost effective, and today I’ll share one of my simplest, most uncomplicated hair AND face mask to DIY.
Yes, its a 2 in 1 recipe, how awesome ūüôā

The ingredients I’m using today has been used in beauty products for many many ages/centuries, ¬†and chances are, if you can eat them, they’re also safe for your hair and face, so don’t worry about any side effects.

You will need 2 ingredients:

  1. All natural, plain yogurt. Greek yogurt ¬†works better apparently, but I couldn’t find any, so I used my plain old regular, ol’ fashioned Nestle yogurt. (5 tablespoons)
  2. Honey. Any type is fine too (3 table spoons)

shashay

Before going into the recipe, lemme tell you why these two ingredients are like magic!

Yogurt provides your hair with amazing shine and softness that no store bought product can. The yogurt restores moisture and strengthens your hair as well, which is something I need since I have hair fall and dry hair. It leaves your hair and face smelling like milky goodness, which is an added plus. Yogurt also contains citric acid and enzymes that fights dandruff and itchy scalp, so if you suffer from those problems, you might wanna give this mask a try.

The honey acts as a shine booster and adds much needed luster to the hair, and honey is antibacterial, plus has massive healing attributes. Apparently honey also is a humectant which attracts moisture to your skin and hair.

This recipe is so simple that a 5 year old can do it!

  1. Mix the yogurt and honey in a small bowl, and mix well.
  2. Apply generously to DRY hair and face. Sometimes I drag the mask to the neck /decollete area as well. Do avoid the eye area.
  3. Cover hair with shower cap, let the face dry. I usually watch a movie or an episode of Vampire Diaries while the mask absorbs into my hair and face.
  4. Leave for 20-30 minutes.
  5. Once the mask feels hard and tight, and cracky on your face, time to wash them off.
  6. Rinse hair with water, I do this twice to get all the yogurt bits out, and follow with shampoo/facial cleanser (optional).

You can use your fingers or a brush for application. I prefer my fingers cause I can get the mask into may scalp better.¬†You can use this mask with your oily and unwashed hair and face, no worries. For the hair, make sure you get the mask deep into your scalp, since that’s where we want the goodness to absorb.Give your head a good massage while applying the mask, since a massage will encourage blood circulation to your scalp. Massage the mask into your skin as well, the mask makes an excellent exfoliant.

This mask is such simple pampering treatment!

shashay (2)

And there you go ūüôā
Some personal comments of mine after trying this mask would be that my hair definitely feels so much smoother, and I don’t have to even comb it after the wash. My hair smells so good as well, since I keep sniffing them throughout the day. ¬†My face feels much softer, and I think the mask kind of lightened my skin as well. Or maybe that’s just the lighting messing with me. Either way, this mask is a winner, and a keeper!

You can mess around with this recipe with other things that are easily found around your kitchen, like adding in lemon juice, or olive oil, or even fresh fruits! I prefer to eat my fruits though, since I always believe that in order to look good on the outside, you have to be good to your insides too =)

Are you going to try the mask out after reading? Any favourite all natural masks that you use for yourself? Let me know, I might want to try them out!

xoxo,

Dare To Go Bare: Of Butterflies, Bubble Gum, and Wax

Hello awesomepeeps!

Lets talk about hair and fur shall we? Now I am not a particularly furry person, LOL, since I barely have any hair on my arms, legs, or even my head for that matter, but that’s another story. =D
Sometimes I do shave my legs, and thread my eyebrows, but I don’t enjoy shaving since the hair regrows super fast, like the next day, and I have to shave again the next day, my legs feel itchy and sometimes I tend to nick myself, and OUCHIE! I get a boo boo. ¬†ūüė¶

*Note* I wanted to split this post into a few different parts actually, but I decided not to, the reason being is, that I want this post to be a one stop point where all of you can read about waxing as a whole, from my perspective as a virgin, and what I thought about it. So I hope you enjoy it, and I am sorry for the long post, I really wanted to get this as comprehensive as possible for all the waxing virgins out there! Not to worry, this story has a happily ever after ending! ‚̧ *End of note*

Since I’ve never tried waxing before, when the Butterfly Project announced that they will be picking 30 lucky ladies to join and be offered as virgin sacrifices for their next project, in¬†collaboration¬†with Bubble Gum Wax, I jumped at the chance! I was like OMG YAYYYY!! when I saw the acceptance email! =D It was such luck that I got in, so thank you Butterflies!! *heartyouforever*

My excited face!

My excited face!

Moving forward to 20th October, I woke up super early, and got myself to Plaza Damas, where the Bubble Gum Wax outlet is located. My session was due to start at 11 am, and I¬†didn’t¬†wanna be late, and guess what? I ended up getting there at 10.20 am. Wasted some time window shopping and around 10.45 am I made my way to the¬†Bubble Gum Wax outlet, and luckily it wasn’t so hard to find. If you wanna know how to get there, basically you have to get to TGI Fridays at the Hartamas shopping centre, cross the small road, walk towards the mamak shop, and the¬†Bubble Gum Wax outlet is located right behind the mamak shop. The banner was set up in front of the¬†Bubble Gum Wax outlet, so I found it quite easily!

The Banner

The Banner

A couple of ladies were already there before me, so we got to talking, introductions and what not, since we couldn’t go into the¬†Bubble Gum Wax outlet yet. The staff were actually still setting up all the surprises for us, so we just waited for about a few minutes, and registered with Illy while waiting. We also took a lot of pictures with the Dare To Wax banner while waiting, since ¬†that’s what we girls do best! ūüôā

Bubble Gum Wax

When we finally got in, I was so excited to see the interior, decorations, and food that was served! This how Bubble Gum Wax usually looks, but they did some changes to accommodate all us ladies! Bubble Gum Wax

We also had some interesting goodies waiting for us!

Goodies!

Goodies!

Since the theme of the event was Pink and Black, all the decorations, food and girls were dressed in pink and black! Have a look at the pictures of the food and decorations and you’ll see what I mean!

The Ice Cream Bar was where we could build our own ice cream, decorate it, put whatever we wanted on it, and then eat it! We also had some kinky looking cookies to eat, bikini bottoms and all that. It was terribly cute! Look at all the G strings, thongs and yummy bum bums ūüėČ

I was very impressed with the amount of detail that went into planning the whole event, down to the water bottle decorations, and even the name cards for the food!  Plus we had noodles from Little Wonton to snack on, and thank the lords for the noodles, cause I was so hungry! I was rushing to reach on time that I forgot to eat! We had two types, the  spicy one and the Teriyaki one, and me on account of being Indian, of course I chose the spicy one!

Noodlies

Anyway, enough about the food, I’m getting hungry again writing about them!
Moving on to the main part of the event itself, the Waxing! We had Illy from the Butterfly Project welcoming all of us, and Jesslyn, the Bubble Gum Wax outlet manager who first of all introduced all her staff, and explaining how the waxing process will be like, since most of us were virgins to waxing, including me!

Illy and Jesslyn

Illy and Jesslyn

So let me tell all you ladies all about Bubble Gum Wax (BGW), and their waxing services okay? Lesson time!

(BGW) offers two types of hair removal methods, the first one being waxing, and the second one being Intense Pulsed Light (IPL). Most girls know what waxing is, basically hair removal with wax, and its a semi-permanent method which removes the hair from the root so this means that the hair does grow back!  But it lasts for four to eight weeks or more, depending on the individuals body and hormones. So you have clean, nice skin for almost 2 months before you need a touch up or follow up! WOW. That sounds awesome for myself, since I have to shave my legs at least every two days.

IPL service on the other hand, is a permanent reduction method which removes hair using different wavelengths of light and heat. It reduces most of the hair forever an ever after several sessions of IPL. Imagine not ever having to shave or wax anymore? Sounds awesome right?

I’ll also let you know about BBG itself! They offer the two services, plus they also wax for men as well! So girls, bring your boyfs along and get him clean! I took a picture of their prices so that you can decide what services you want to choose for yourself. If the picture isn’t too clear, *sorry*, click on it and zoom okay! =)

Price List

Price List

As you can see, their main concern is to make you feel as comfortable as you can be, and offer you the best services they have. And I must say, they definitely lived up to their motto!!

Their motto

Their motto

For the gentleman

For the gentleman

In this particular campaign with the Butterflies, all of us had to go for a Brazilian (private area) WAXING service!

So i’ll explain more in depth about the waxing process okay? There are two types of waxes that are used for waxing our bodies, the first one is the soft wax, and the second one, the hard wax.¬†

Soft Wax:¬† Soft wax is usually used to remove small, fine hair, like hair on your legs, arms and face. You know those waxing that uses paper/cloth to remove the hair in the movies, yup,¬†that’s¬†soft wax! Usually for Brazilian waxing, the soft wax is used to remove all the finer hair at the top part, near the top of your panty line basically. Or if you have done Brazilian waxing before, your vajajay usually grow out finer hair, so soft wax can be used to remove them. Its light yellow in colour, and apparently, this wax hurts a lot more that the hard wax!¬†

Hard Wax:¬†¬†Hard wax is something I’ve never seen before, and it is actually used to remove coarse, thick hair, like the hair down under. LOL. The wax is reddish orange in colour. This wax is usually used for wax virgins, since it hurts less, and wax¬†virgins¬†usually¬†have coarser hair! The method of using this wax is a little different as well, what they do is that put the wax on your skin, pat the wax till it dries and hardens, that¬†usually¬†takes 5-10 seconds, and they pull the wax off just like that, with their hands! I know, it sounds¬†terrifying, pulling wax of your vajajay? But since I just got myself waxed, ill let you in on a little secret *it really¬†doesn’t¬†hurt *

Next up, the waxing Process itself. We had to go in turns since there were 15 of us in the first session, and only 3 rooms available ,so meanwhile, all of us who¬†weren’t¬†being waxed had a DIY¬†assignment¬†to do! The Butterflies had told us earlier to bring a shoe box, so our DIY task was to decorate the shoe box as creatively as we could have, and the 3 best and most creative girls would win some awesome prizes!
Now, I have absolutely zero creative talent, I know that from all the D’s I got in Art back when I was at school, so please count me out from winning. So all the girls started wrapping the boxes in the brown paper provided, and while I was busy wrapping my box up (more like frustrated really because I didn’t know how to wrap my damn box), I got called to go in for my waxing process!

I wanted to scream I DONT WANNA GO IN!!!!, (I was actually scared), but I told myself to chin up, and face my fear of waxing, and accept the challenge  of going bare! So I went in! Now comes the juicy part of the story!

I managed to take pictures of the room before I went in, so this is how it looks like. The bed is super comfy, like I could fall asleep comfy, and it is a private room, obviously, so its going to be just you and the wax expert. But what I¬†didn’t¬†realize was that at the top part of the wall, there is a small opening, so you can actually hear what is happening next door! I heard some pretty interesting conversations the other day, something about boyfriends looking for hidden treasures and what not. LOOLLLLLL. =D Its a brightly lit room, and it feels super calm with all the light music.¬†

The room

The room

These are the wax tools used, there are two pots for the two different waxes, and all the tools needed to wax you clean! Hygiene wipes, cotton pads, cotton balls, the stick things to apply the waxes, scissors, tweezers, powders ad all that And you¬†don’t¬†have to worry about cleanliness and the sanitary level, because all the tools used will be thrown away after usage, so you can rest assured you are treated with the highest standard of hygiene! All the metal tools used will also be cleaned and¬†sterilized, like at the hospitals, so no worries ladies! ¬†The purple things you see, those are lasers for IPL, which I¬†didn’t¬†use this time around.¬†

Waxing kits!

Waxing kits!

Before the waxing process is done, the wax expert( waxpert) will tell you to go in, get undressed and clean your vajajay with the hygiene wipes. Basically just wipe down the area to clean it up. Once your done, you can let the waxpert into the room, and the ¬†waxing starts! I would suggest, if your going to go for waxing, to wear a dress, because for one thing, during the waxing process, you don’t have to get undressed much, ¬†just your dress has to be hiked up a little, and affer the waxing, you wont have much friction with clothing’s. If you’re wearing tight skinny jeans or something, I would imagine the friction!

And here comes the part which I dreaded the most.  Once the waxpert came in, I was super shy, imagine showing your private area to a stranger! Yeah, I know she is a girl as well, but still, SHY! Lucky for me, the waxpert made me feel so comfortable, she was so friendly, and easygoing. She actually managed to make me feel less shy and more comfortable around her.  I think this is a very important factor when a wax virgin goes in for waxing. Like how comfy you are, and if the process make you feels awkward and shy, the waxpert should make you feel as calm and comfy. BBG staff certainly impressed me that day! They are so professional as well, they will explain everything they do to you, and ask you if you are ready and comfortable to start.

Once I was comfy and ready to get waxed, the waxpert started of by trimming some hair. Oh yeah, reminder! If you ladies wanna go for waxing, do make sure your fur is about 5-6 mm long, if not, you wont be able to get waxed! I know some butterflies on the day who didn’t have long enough fur, maybe because of a previous waxing experience or shaving, they had to reschedule their appointment! So after trimming, the waxpert, in my case her name was Wendy I think, she applied some baby powder to the area, then used the soft wax to remove all the fine hair at the top and sides. It didn’t hurt so much, I mean we ladies deal with period cramps, and all types of pain on a monthly basis, so this is actually nothing.

Speaking¬†of which, to go for waxing, its actually much easier and less¬†complicated¬†to go for waxing when you¬†don’t¬†have your period, but if you must, they will be able to¬†accommodate¬†you as well. And they also don’t¬†recommend¬†you to go right before you’re due to have your period, I mean, before we get our period, we’re all super sensitive, and even our skin is actually much more sensitive at the time, so it will hurt WAYY more! Back to my¬†waxing¬†experience!

While waxing, we ended up talking about random stuff, like Wendy has been working there for almost a year now and she told me how her experience has been so far as a waxpert. I was telling her all about my job, and blogging, and she also was asking about my other half. Since we were talking, I didn’t really feel much pain or anything, she was really good at distracting me with conversation. AHAHA. Then she used the hard wax to remove the coarser hair. The wax was super warm when applied to the skin, but she made sure it wasn’t too hot , since it is such a sensitive area for us ladies. Once the wax cooled, after like 10 seconds, she pulled of the hard wax. I thought it was gonna be SOOO painful, but it wasnt! She did the sides of the privates first, then the top part, and finally the back part of the privates.

Now let me go into detail so you wax virgins know what to expect. Obviously the waxpert will be all in your business down there, removing the hair and all. She will also ask you to position your legs properly so that she can wax everything cleanly. And also she will ask you to turn over at the end, when she is waxing the behind area. OMG SO SHYYY. But like I said, you wont feel shy or awkward because the waxperts make you feel so shy-less. She will also ask you to breathe in when she puts the wax on, and when she is going to pull it off, she will ask you to breathe out, and ZAPPP, off with your hair! *What upp Alice in wonderland reference! *

After all the hair is gone, the waxpert will give you some time to re-dress, and yay, I’m all hairless now!! ¬†
Here are some before and after pics!

before and after

before and after

¬†LOL. I¬†don’t¬†have real pictures, so¬†that’s¬†the best I can do ! =D

And  that was my waxing experience.  I think waxing is much better than shaving, since the hair that grows will be finer, and it takes a while before the hair grows back. On top of that the skin will be smooth and silky as well because we actually remove all the dead skin from the top most layer!

Lets also talk about the after care okay? After waxing, we cant go swimming, sauna, bathe in hot water, no panty liner and all that. Just for 24 hours, since the skin will still be sensitive down there. BBG also provided us butterflies with the Gelato cream to use to make sure the vajajay area doesn’t get dry, and to keep it moisturized. It is also recommended that after 3-4 days, to use a scrub to scrub down the area to prevent ingrown hair, and to remove the dead skin cells!

As you can see in my badly wrapped box below, these are all the goodies given to us by BBG!  There is the Gelato Cream, Gel Mask (the green jar at the side), Hygiene wipes, vouchers, salt spray and a cute Mug!

???????????????????????????????

After my waxing process, the other girls went in for theirs! Surprisingly, I heard no screams from any of the butterflies! What a bunch of brave ladies!!!! ‚̧ Meanwhile, I continued to decorate my box, as you can see from above! haih….
*why I no creative¬†talent, sad* ¬†And the last activity of the day, prize giving for the most creative butterflies! ¬†Mamasan Tammy, and Jesslyn picked the winning ladies based on the most creative boxes, and the first prize winner Lulu won RM500 worth of voucher from BBG, 2nd prize winner Angeline won RM300, and Sarah won RM150! Congrats ladies! Their boxes were so nicely decorated!! Lucky girls ‚̧

We were separated in different sessions ūüė¶

And that was my whole experience with the Butterflies! ¬†I’ll do a second post and tell you all about the goodies soon okay!

L’occitane Smoothing Gloss

Hello awesomesauces!!
So you know those tangly fly away hairs that we all have ? Lets just say I don’t have that problem anymore since I started using the¬†L’occitane Smoothing Gloss!

Been using this for about a year now, and I have to say, its one of my must haves to tame wavy or unruly hair! My hair generally behaves most of the time, and its mostly straight, with just a bit of wavyness at the ends. I haven’t really coloured my hair or anything, but I did bleach my ends once (never again), and it became super duper dry, so I applied this gloss on it to make it all healthy and shiny again!

???????????????????????????????

Description: The gloss is enriched with 5¬†essential oils and strawberry AHA and this anti-frizz Repairing Smoothing Gloss effectively smoothes and tames hair while helping to repair and protect it from heat damage from the hair dryer or flat iron. Your hair is light, sleek and manageable with a long lasting finish. (That’s what the description says)

It contains five essential oils: Angelica that softens, Lavender that purifies, Geranium that regenerates, Ylang Ylang that strengthens and Patchouli that stimulates and Strawberry AHA.

MY DESCRIPTION: Okay, so yes, after application, hair does become sleek and smooth, and it definitely lasts till the end of the day! About heat protection, I would still advise you guys to use a proper heat protectant like Chi Iron Guard since I find that the heat protection for this product is very minimal. The smell of the product is very fresh, it smells a little like mens after shave to me honestly, so if you’re particular about the scent of a product, this might not be for you.

For me, I’m pretty okay with most smells, and the smell of the gloss does disappear after a while anyway, so no biggie. The texture is like a conditioner, thick, but clear, and it goes on very easily on the hair without stickyness.¬†With 5 essential oils, i thought L‚Äôoccitane‚Äôs Smoothing Gloss would feel like a serum, or an oil but its a actually thick viscous gel.¬†Plus, its Sulphate free! That’s always a good thing no?

loccitane gloss 4

loccitane gloss 5

Instructions for use: Apply and spread on damp hair evenly before blow-drying. And to structure your hair or your curls, apply on dry hair on ends as a finish.
Personally, I don’t put this on my dry hair, since I find that it makes my hair feel crunchy, you know what I mean? Usually I use it after I wash my hair, while its still damp, take a penny sized dollop, rub it all over my fingertips to warm it up, and then apply all over my ponytail region. And then you style your hair as how you would do it normally. My hairstyle would last the whole day, curly or straight. And its not crunchy, weirdly enough. *mysteries of the world*
Other general thoughts: This product is priced at RM95 and for 125 ml. It lasts for a long time since you¬†don’t¬†really use much for each application. Cost wise, pretty effective!Out of 5 stars, this product gets a 4 rating. A definite repurchase!

For now, that’s about it I guess! Drop me a comment, like, tweet, share or anything really. I promise I don’t scratch! =D And dont forget to follow my facebook updates here!
