Frank Fridays With Shashay #2

Welcome to Frank Fridays with Shashay!

Frank Fridays (FF) with Shashay is a beauty loving, fun filled forum where we girls, & guys too, have a chat about everything and anything under the sun. FF is where I usually where I have a cuppa coffee, talk to my readers, be Aunt Agony and answer all your burning questions about everything and anything. I’ll ask you guys something that I’m particularly curious about, and you can ask me anything you want too!!

If you have a beauty related question, shoot away! Random blogging questions and enquiries? If you’re nosy and want to know more about me, then by all means ask! 😀 Anything under the sun goes in Frank Fridays!

Last week I asked you what your ultimate spending misgiving was, and many of you responded, quite enthusiastically I might add! Thank you for those who joined and shared your regrets with me 🙂 I loved reading all your responses, replying to all your comments & I hope you enjoyed reading mine!

My question for this week?

Where is the best place/country/continent/area you have traveled to and why? What made that place stand out to you? And will you travel there again someday? 😆

My most favourite travel was probably when I was spending a few weeks in Wellington, New Zealand, simply because of how peaceful I felt while I was there. I was visiting during the winter season, so the winds were cold, the breeze was strong (I even got blown off by the wind), and the people were lovely! I met so many people while I was there, and some of them I have been in contact with even until today.  Wellington is a really small city, but it is utterly perfect. Everything is in walking distance, I loved taking the cable cars, and I just loved how quiet the place was. I would say its one of those places where I would love to retire to someday. I could go on and on about it, but I’ll stop okay? 😀

Here’s a few pics I have of my trip . Just random pics of the city at night, and beautiful flowers growing by the roads.

Let me know in the comments where your favourite travels were and if you have any other questions for me, just ask away!

Carol Priest: Part 2, Green Clay Mask, Facial Lotion & Hand and Body Cream

Hello awesomesauces!

This review is the second and final part of my Carol Priest Review. In part one, I reviewed the Orangeflower Cleansing Milk and Damask Rose Toner. And they scored pretty well in my opinion.

For part two, I’ll be reviewing 3  products,  The Rose Damascena Facial Lotion, the Green Clay Mask with Herbal Oils, and the Damask Rose Hand & Body Cream.

To read about my un-boxing the Carol Priest goodies sent to me by HiShop, and also to learn more about CP as a brand, do read my first post here!

#3 : The Rose Damascena facial lotion for sensitive, dry & mature skin types(50ml)

shashay (4)

shashay (3)

Now I know I don’t have mature skin, so I passed this to my mum to use and let me know how it is for her.

  • The lotion contains a high percentage of nourishing 100% certified organic oils like macadamia nut oil and rosehip seed oil, apricot kernal oil and naturally occuring vitamins such as B5, A and E.
  • Macadamia nut oil is incorporated to support moisturisation and to protect cell lipids from rancidity and peroxidation.
  • Apricot kernal oil is used for its high content of vitamin A and for its light texture.
  • Genuine Damascena Rose Oil has been incorporated to stimulate the cell activity which brings new vitality and energy to our skin.
  •  The pure plant oils in this intensive treatment day lotion have been protected from oxidation and rancidity by adding non genetically modified naturally occurring vitamin E oil.
  • It also protects your skin from harmful ozone damage and damage from the sun by neutralizing free radicals.

Active Ingredients:
Aqua, Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot) Kernal Oil, Rosa Canina Fruit Oil, Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil, Rosa Damascena Flower Oil, Tocopherol, Xanthan Gum, Daucus Carota Sativa, Commiphora Myrrha Resin.

It comes in the lovely glass bottle as the Cleansing Milk, and smells very nutty, and earthy to me.

How to use?

  1. Apply to cleansed skin, pat pat pat, and you’re done!

PS: This product is not suitable for pregnant women.

So what does my mum think?

Scent: A very earthy smell, very natural smelling, it doesn’t bother her much.
Spreadability:  It absorbs very easily, doesn’t take long for it to actually sink in. It spreads very nicely and softly.
End result: She thinks it leaves her skin smelling nice, smooth, and after using it for a few days now, she wants to continue using it. A keeper then!

She rates this product an 8 out of 10 points.

Pros: Not much to complain about, She didn’t have any adverse effects, and she likes the subtle fairness it imparts on the skin.
Cons: Pricey. For a small bottle,  which lasts maybe 2 months, she thinks its pretty pricey!

This product retails at HiSHop for RM220.00 for 50 ml.

#4 : Green Clay Mask with Herbal Oils for all skin types (15g)

shashay (2)

Mask time! I love masks, since they always leave my skin looking like a million bucks!

  • The green clay mask is a deeply purifying and stimulating mask made from freshly cut organic herbs such as chamomile flowers and peppermint leaf which have been blended with herbal oils and  manuka honey to refresh and tone the pores.
  • Active green clay (from France) which is rich in minerals from was chosen to cleanse, exfoliate, smooth and condition the skin.

Active Ingredients:
Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Honey, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Leaf Powder, Cymbopogon Schoenanthus Oil, Mentha Spicata (Spearmint) Leaf Oil, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil

How to use?

The instructions given on the product are very very tedious, which involves teaspoons, warm compresses and cold compresses. Who got time for that?? But if you’re super hard working, the instuction can be found on the link down there, *scroll down a little*

What I do is this instead.

  • I apply a small quantity of the mask to my cleansed face and neck using my fingers, leave it on for 15-20 minutes, maybe go and watch one episode of Big Bang Theory, wash my face with warm water, and pat dry. Voila!

PS: This product is not suitable for pregnant women.

So what do I think?

Scent: Since it contains so much herbal oils, it does smell very herbally to me. It has a weird scent, I think it smells a little like paint, I dont know why.
Application: Simple and easy, and it dries pretty quickly and leaves your face tighter, and smoother.
Spreadability: It is a thick cream, very thick okay, and it takes some time to spread it, but if you;re using your fingers, its easier cause the warmth will melt the mask a little.
End result: I think it leaves my skin feeling much smoother, and tighter, and it seems my pores are smaller too!

I rate this product an 7 out of 10 points. Less points cause of the scent.

Pros: Smoother & tighter skin even after one use.
Cons: The scent may put you off a little, but otherwise its good!

This product retails at HISHop for RM90.00 for 15g.

#5 : Damask Rose Hand & Body Cream for all skin types (50g)

shashay (5)

shashay (1)

  • The cream is a luxury pure plant based hand and body conditioning cream, rich in shea butter and jojoba oil which leaves the skin feeling soft and silky.
  • It also contains pure Rosa Damascena essential oil for its exquisite fragrance, healing and soothing qualities.

Active Ingredients:
Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Rosa Damascena Flower Oil

How to use:

Simply massage the cream onto hands and cuticles as a conditioning hand care treatment. Also, moisturize the rest of your body with cream!

PS: This product is not suitable for pregnant women.

So what do I think?

Scent: A very strong rosy smell, which is so nice! I keep smelling my hands for no reason!
Spreadability: It is a thick cream, so you need to take some time to let it absorb, and your skin will feel like velvet.
End result: I think it leaves my skin feeling very smooth, moisturized, and smells ‘mazing too.

I rate this product an 10 out of 10 points. Full points in the house yo!

Pros: An awesome product as a whole. Nothing to complain about.
Cons: It takes a while, but hey, if its worth t, why not?

I LOVE BUBBLE WRAP! ITS SO FUN!!!!

shashay

The star brand of the day?
Carol Priest

Now I have never used this brand before, so I’m pretty excited to write about it; I mean the best part about a brand is discovering something totally new and different.

A little introductions are in order, so say hello to Carol Priest!

They started out as a small brand in New Zealand, *think fresh green lush surroundings*, and they specialized in making herbal skin care products. And they started wayy back in 1991,  that makes them about 20 years old.

The interesting thing about CP is that they hand make and prepare the products to ensure freshness and so that the goodness in the products are retained. Very similar to theSkintopic I notice, I guess New Zealand brands practice this religiously.

Each product they make contains special mixes of proven botanicals with absolutely no mineral oils to act as carriers. So say no to clogged pores.

Their light product colours and scents come from ALL  natural sources. Instead of chemicals/synthetic fragrances, they use essential oils, in its unadulterated form.( meaning not mixed or diluted with any different or extra elements; complete and absolute).

Combine all of the above, and you get an amazing line of natural, fresh, & quality products!

I recieved 5 products from the Carol Priest brand, courtesy of HiShop, so I’m going to break em down to two posts so that you dont have ANOTHER super long post from me *thousand apologies*

#1 : Orangeflower Cleansing Milk for all skin types (30 ml)

shashay

shashay

  • This is a light cleansing milk, which was made to cleanse all types of skin, yay to no skin discrimination =D
  • It contains cold pressed essential oils of lemon, bitter orange and sweet orange included for their astringent tonifying (is that a word?) and cleansing properties.
  • And it contains sweet almond oil and cold pressed jojoba oil that helps to nourish skin!

Active Ingredients:
Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter) , Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Peel Oil, Citrus Aurantium Amara (Bitter Orange ) Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange)Flower Oil, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary ) Leaf Extract.

It comes in a very beautiful glass bottle and  upon first smelling it, I think it smells very citrusy!

shashay

How to use? Its actually quite similar to an  oil cleanse .

  1. First, skin has to be super clean and free from any dirt, bacteria and oils. Apply a small amount, or you can also use a lot! I used a penny sized dollop.
  2.  Make a warm compress using a clean wash cloth and apply firmly to the face and neck areas for a few minutes. This helps to open pores and dissolve any oils on your skin.
  3. The soaking of clean skin helps the aromatic essential oils and plant oils dissolve and soften skin.
  4. Massage the cleansing milk into the skin and neck, let it slowly absorb into your skin, and do avoid the eye area. I did this massage for like 5 minutes. Use small circular motions and create a light lather.
  5. Remove the milk using a warm wash cloth. Rinse any traces of the milk  by splashing warm water over your face and neck.
  6. Optional* finish with a cold compress and rinse.

PS: This product is not suitable for pregnant women.

My face after using the cleaning milk. Not too bad, quite clear. LOL

shashay

So what do I think?

Scent: A very nice light citrus smell, I like it, my skin smells fresh. Smells a lot like herbs and fresh forests comes to mind.
Lather: It lathers really well, you only need a small amount to get the whole face, and its really creamy, like massaging milk on your skin!
Removing: Since I’m using the warm water and wash cloth, it removes all traces of the milk perfectly, but if you were just to use normal temperature water and just your hands, *AND I tried this way as well*, it leaves a slight oily feel, which I dont really mind, since I have dry skin, but if this would bother you, I’d suggest you to use the wash cloth =)
End result: I think it leaves my skin feeling very smooth, and it is very moisturizing. After a few days using this milk, my skin feels more supple and it kind of glows!

I rate this product an 8 out of 10 points.

Pros: An awesome product as a whole. Not much to complain about, I didnt have any breakouts from the milk, and no adverse effects. Plus I have glowy skin now, so YES!
Cons: Just like the Oil Cleanse, this takes patience and time, and I think its worth it, since great skin takes effort and some time.

This product retails at HISHop for RM85.00 for 30 ml but they’re having a massive discount now *see below*

Pat Pat Pat!

shashay

So what do I think?

Scent: A very strong rose scent, so if you’re a fan of roses, you’re in luck! Your skin smells like roses for at least an hour after application. I smell like a rose garden now!
Application: Simple and easy, and it dries pretty quickly too, within 2-3 minutes, and leaves a nice tingly feeling afterwards.
End result: I think it leaves my skin feeling very nice smelling, and I like the smell, makes me smell all girly and feminine.

I rate this product an 9 out of 10 points.

Pros: Love the toner, it removes any traces of dirt on my face, and I smell awesome.
Cons: Nothing to comment on =)

TheSkintopic 1st Anniversary!!

Harooo awesomesauces!!!

Its FRIDAY!!! Finally the weekend! What have you guys got planned for it? I’m going to a couple of events with my girls, and then heading over for a quick trip Pahang after! Updates coming soon =D

Okay I’m gonna stop rambling and go back to my blog post. I attended theSkintopic first anniversary event on Thursday, all thanks to the Butterfly Project! Thank you Butterflies for giving me the opportunity to be a part of a fun event! It was held at Pavilion KL on the 5th floor, which is where their concept store is located.

Established in 2012, theSkintopic main focus is making quality skin care products from New Zealand readily accessible to their customers. At the moment, theSkintopic is the only distributor of natural and botanical skincare and bodycare brands from New Zealand, mainly Olive, Tebe, Linden Leaves, Wild Ferns and the latest addition to the family, Evolu which was introduced in Malaysia this June.

We had the Chairman and Founder of Linden Leaves, one of the New Zealand skincare & bodycare brands that theSkintopic distributes in Malaysia,  Brigit Blair who came down from Christchurch, New Zealand to show us how theSkintopic Aromatherapy Synergy Body Oils are made, and I must say, I haven’t came across their products before this. but I love how the products smell, and feel on the skin. They come from New Zealand, and most of their ingredients as well! Here’s a couple of pictures of the products!

The event started off with a quick speech from the emcee, introducing Brigit Blair. Her speech was quick, about how Linden Leaves Aromatherapy Synergy oils started out, which she developed and formulated herself, and how they’ve now branched out into skin care ranges and how the response has been in the Malaysian Market.  She also was explaining how the oils are made, packaged, and all of it is done with love by hand! Awww..

Speech time. See if you can spot Tammy! =P

Speech time.
See if you can spot Tammy! =P

After the speeches and everything, we got down the the most fun part of all!
Making the oils by ourselves! Of course we didn’t “make” the oils, but what we actually did was package the oils into the bottles! Brigit showed us how its done, and some of us got to assemble the body oils ourselves by filling the bottles with the freeze dried ingredient such as lavender and rose followed by the body oils.

the DIY table!

the DIY table!

lets make some oils!

lets make some noise. and oils!

Basically, what we had to do, was to cut the stems, and flowers, place them into the bottles, seal, and package them. It was not as easy as it sounds! The flowers are fragile since they are freeze dried, and you have to take precaution to not let the petals and buds fall off. I tell you, I got butter fingers, so I wasn’t sure if I could do it!

We had two types of flowers, Roses, and Lavender and I got to try packaging the Rose one!

some of the bloggers who got to try packaging the oils!

Kelly trying to package the flowers!

ANd the surprising bit? After packaging our oils, we got to keep the big bottle for ourselves! OMG yay! The big bottle retails are like RM200++, so I was really lucky to have volunteered to do the demonstration!

After the DIY demonstration, they had lucky draws, and the lucky girls who won got to go back with gift sets of  the Linden Leaves Aromatherapy Synergy sets in Memories, Pick Me Up and Absolute Dreams worth RM414!

So lucky!! I didnt win anything, but I have my full sized Synergy oil, so imma happy girl!! =)

The event was fun, and the DIY was even more so! I’m really glad that The Butterfly Project invited me for this event, and I cant wait for their next event! Meanwhile, I’m going to try out my Rose Absolute Dreams Synergy Oil, and go to blissful sleep! Its like 1 am right now as I’m typing this you see =D I’ll be doing a review of the Rose Absolute Dreams Synergy Oil soon , so do stay tuned for it!  For now, enjoy this post and PS:  my giveaway ends in 2 more days,  hurry up and get your entries in!

Linden Leaves is available exclusively at theSkintopic kiosks, and the range includes Skincare, Bathtime and Aromatherapy Synergy products suitable for all ages. Products retail from RM59 to RM216.
