[Review] Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick in Grand Cru & Ole Flamingo

If you recall a couple of weeks ago, I blogged about the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick in Frambourjoise, and I mentioned that I was lemming for Grand Cru & Ole Flamingo too? Guess what landed in the mailbox soon after?

Say hello to the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipsticks in Grand Cru & Ole Flamingo! I wont run through the whole review again, I’ve raved plenty in my previous post on them, which you can read here.

Optimized-Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Review Grand Cru Ole Flamingo (5)

Just to recap for any new readers here, the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipsticks are amazeballs for all the following reasons:

They’re a bold matte lipstick with enhanced colour that dries to a soft velvety finish.
They feel lightweight on the lips. (as if you’re not wearing any lipstick at all)
They do not dry out the lips like other matte lipsticks.
And the most important fact, is that they last FOREVER on your lips. (proven fact yo)

Grand Cru is described as a dark burgundy red, tinged with pink for a bright touch that makes it easy to wear.

Optimized-Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Review Grand Cru Ole Flamingo (3)
Ole Flamingo on the other hand is described as a deep pink, with all the light , fresh, sassy spirit of raspberry, intense & surprising.

Swatches of Grand Cru & Ole Flamingo.

Optimized-Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Review Grand Cru Ole Flamingo (7)

As you can see, Grand Cru applies very clumpy, as I have mentioned in my previous post, which did put me off purchasing it. But to my utter surprise, it glides on as smooth as butter on my lips! Anyone care to explain how or why, because I’m dumbfounded by that fact. I guess lip products should be swatched on lips, where they belong, and not on my arm.

Swatches of the rest of the shades, just in case 😉

Bourjois Velvet

Personal Thoughts: I cant get enough of these babies! I already have 3 of the 8 shades now, and I’m planning to collect all 8 ASAP. The chemical scent of the product still irks me, but considering it dissapears soon after, I don’t mind it.

[Review] Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick in Frambourjoise

Haroo mah awesomesauces!

I’m super excited to do this review, mainly cos I’ve been waiting for this item to come into Bourjois Malaysia since they launched locally! The waiting finally paid off, cos it’s here! It’s here! The Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick is here! ❤ The first day I knew it was in, I quickly dropped by Sunway Pyramid to get my hands on it, and to swatch every single shade known to mankind, lol!

Just a bit of background story first just for fun. I went over to the Bourjois kiosk in Sunway Pyramid on the launch day to purchase them, but apparently they were not in yet. The pioneer stock was only coming in the next week. Only testers were available so that people could pre-book them. (I wonder why though?) My heart sank ever so slightly, so I dropped my name & number to the SA and told her to give me a ring when they were in (which she did btw, so kudos to customer service being alive!).

Took a walk around the mall to easy my poor soul, and lo & behold, the whole complete range of Rouge Edition Velvet Lipsticks was available at Watsons Sunway Pyramid!! Bourjois Malaysia, why you no communicate things internally clearly and confuse poor customers like me? 😦

Anyway I got myself the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick in Frambourjoise, and only one because I wanted to give the products a proper go before deciding if I wanted any other shades so I went with a safe pink.

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Review (2)

The Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick in Frambourjoise at a first glance, looks like a pink shade with slight hints of red. I think this colour is super suitable for day & work wear! The product itself comes nicely packaged in a see-through tube, and the shade inside is clearly visible. The doe-foot sponge that comes with the applicator seems convenient, but honestly, I found that it picks up way too much product, and the application isn’t as smooth as I wished it was. I usually use my lip brush to outline, and my fingers to blend instead.

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Review (7)

Product Description:

  • Matte finish and incredibly light.
  • Bold colour
  • Flawless hold
  • Rouge Edition Velvet lasts 24 hours, no need for constant touch-ups!

Rouge Edition Velvet by Bourjois is the new era of lipsticks. An amazing, irresistible formula. It’s soft, melting texture glides on to the lips and turns into a matte, velvety and incredibly light colour. Lips are left smooth and soft as velvet. Enriched with evanescent oils, it’s incredibly sensuous formula provides a soft, second-skin feel, without drying or fading lips.

Rouge Edition Velvet shades are true “colour shots” with a chic matte finish! Thanks to the formula being saturated with pure pigments, each shade perfectly covers lips with bold, very intense colour. An ultra-fashionable result, straight from the catwalk! The texture of the lipstick is undetectable after application. The lipstick is comfortable to wear all day long.

With its transparent bottle and shade-tinted cap, the Rouge edition lipstick is a must-have fashion accessory to show off! Its slant foam applicator makes application precise and easy, delivering just the right amount of formula.

The Rouge Edition Velvet comes in 8 gorgeous shades.
From left: Personne Ne Rouge, Frambourjoise, Hot Pepper, Peach Club, Ole Flamingo, Pink Pong, Nude-ist & Grand Cru.

I was initially torn between Ole Flamingo, Frambourjoise & Grand Cru, but since I had my Too Faced Melted Liquefied Lipstick in Candy & Ruby, and those two shades are almost similar, I decided to go with Frambourjoise instead. Also taking into account the fact that all the testers for Grand Cru were clumpy. (manufacturing defect or is the product formulation bad?)

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Review (6)

Personal Thoughts: Personally, I’m on the fence with these lipsticks. I cant say I hate them, but I certainly havent fallen head over heels with them. To name a few things that irk me, the scent of the product is a strong pungent chemical scent (granted it does dissapear in a short while), but I still don’t like the things that I put on my face to smell as such. The colours are also just a teensy weensy bit opaque for me, so not a fan. I prefer my lipsticks to ooze pigmentation!

Things that I like? The fact that they stay on literally forever. I can eat, sleep, jump of a building, and these lippies stay on, the whole effing day! I have almost never retouched up my lip colour when using this product. My lips are so smooth and feel as soft as velvet. On the plus side, they don’t dry out my lips, ever!

Price wise, the Bourjois SA mentioned that these lippies retail for RM49, but they were sold at Watsons for RM39.80 instead. So poor me is left feeling confused again.

Here is me wearing the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick in Frambourjoise. The colour pay off is great, no?

For those interested in the ingredients.

Ingredients: Dimethicone, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Butyl Acrylate/Hydroxypropyl Dimethicone Acrylate Copolymer, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Silica, Parfum (Fragrance), Limolene. [+/- (May Contain) : CI 45410 (Red 28 Lake), CI 15850 (Red 7 Lake), Mica, CI 73360 (Red 30 Lake), CI 19140 (Yellow 5 Lake), CI 12085 (Red 36), CI 15850 (Red 6), CI 77891 (Titanium Dioxide), CI 15985 (Yellow 6 Lake), CI 17200 (Red 33 Lake), CI 42090 (Blue 1 Lake), CI 45380 (Red 22 Lake), CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499 (Iron Oxides), CI 75470 (Carmine), CI 77163 (Bismuth Oxychloride), CI 77742 (Manganese Violet)]. 13BML001-1

Personally, this isn’t the best lippie out there, but if you’re looking for something moderately cheap and will last a long time on your lips, this will work. I would go get myself another shade, but I’m currently saving up for some high-end foundations that I have my eye on, so not yet. The next shade I’d want is probably Nude-ist or Personne Ne Rouge.

RRP: 39.80 (at Watsons)

Hydraluron : Hit or Miss?

How often do you pick up an item based on a positive review you read somewhere? Maybe via word of mouth from a friend of a friend of a friend? Sometimes, all the time, never? Guilty here!

Personally, I read A LOT of product reviews in general, and every girly outing I have always involves and ends with discussions, reviews and debates on whether a product has failed us, amazed us, or left us feeling a little meh. I love my girlfriends to death, but sometimes I swear they’re bad for my bank account 😉 Yes I mean you Arpita

On top of my girlfriends trying to bankrupt me, I also have people like Paris B who are enablers to my endless shopping addiction, who feeds my daily dose of pretty via her product reviews & my review of the Hydraluron Moisture Booster today is all thanks to her as well!

After reading her review of the infamous Hydraluron, I pretty much felt like this.

First of all, I didn’t know Hydraluron was available locally. *smacks head on wall*

Once I knew it was within my reach,  I knew I had to try it out ASAP!

The only snag was that Hydraluron was available in Malaysia in one store only, would you believe that? And on top of that, half the time, Hydraluron is sold out. I remember as I was purchasing my own tube, the sales assistant was telling me, “Miss, you should get a few more tubes since we only have a couple of tubes of Hydraluron left, and the next shipment doesn’t come in until a months time”. If you see Hydraluron, pick it up before someone else does 🙂 Plus you’re ever in Sunway Pyramid and passing through Muse by Watsons, please pick me up some Hydraluron!

Anyway, I finally did drag my lazy butt to Sunway one fine day and got myself this baby, and can I just say, imma happy mama?? *insert wacky dance here*

hydraluron review

Hydraluron is the baby of Indeed Laboratories and is manufactured in the holy land of maple syrup, Canada. Muse by Watsons only carries 4 items from Indeed Laboratories, including Hydraluron(RM80),which is the Nanoblur  (RM65), Snoxin (RM130), and the Eysilix (RM99).

*Nanoblur is an instant skin perfector, and works much like a face primer, Snoxin is a facial line lifter and Eysilix is an eye cream.

I’ve actually also got my eye on Nanoblur, since reviews are telling me that its good stuff. (see how easily swayed I am by glowing reviews? Thank you Internet!)

At the first glance, Hydraluron comes in a very simple, clinical, packaging but that pink, oh boy! I’m not a big fan of pink, but I do love the pink box it comes in. One tube of Hydraluron contains 30 ml of hyaluronic acid, however, as I’m reading through the ingredient list, I don’t see Hyaluronic acid listed in it, instead I see Sodium Hyaluronate, the salt version of the acid. I’m not entirely sure why that is, maybe the raw, pure hyaluronic acid is too strong for direct application?

hydraluron review (2)

hydraluron review (6)

And if you’re new to beauty jargon, hello, and a few things about hyaluronic acid, its is literally the best thing that ever happened to skincare, as it is boosts moisture in skin like anything, it also slows down aging, and has also been touted as the key ingredient in healing scars.

Hydraluron is a clear liquid with a consistency slightly thicker than water, which means it is a little tacky and not as runny as water. To be perfectly honest, it has the consistency of snot. Come on, you know what I mean 😆 The liquid is very easily absorbed, and leaves skin feeling matte-er than usual.

IMPORTANT: Hydraluron is a serum, and you use this underneath your moisturizer as this isn’t a topical moisturizer.

According to the description on the box, “the serum provides below the surface hydration and is NOT a substitute for any moisturizing creams. Using this product increases the skins ability to retain moisture over time and reduces the amount of topical moisturizers needed to maintain ideal skin hydration.”

hydraluron review (5)

I had a few concerns and apprehensions about using Hydraluron as some people reported cystic acne and massive skin flare ups. If you have sensitive skin, or if your skin cant handle hyaluronic acid in large amounts, you may want to stay off this product.  I decided to have a go, since curiosity was killing me, and I already bought the darn thing hadn’t I? 😛

Directions of use: I use Hydraluron twice a day, morning and night, and its the first thing that goes onto my skin after my toner, and then my other serum, moisturizer, etc. I use a pea size amount for my whole face area. After application, skin will feel slightly tacky, but continue on with your normal skincare routine.

hydraluron review (3)

One thing about the tube-screw on packaging though, I haven’t seen this happening to anyone else, so it might just be me, but every-time I place the tube horizontally on my vanity, the next day, a little bit of Hydraluron seems to leak out and I have to scoop it up out of the cap. I have now placed in standing vertically with the cap at the top to prevent any spillage, and that seems to be working fine.

hydraluron review (1)

Personal Thoughts: One month down the road after using Hydraluron, I do not notice significant changes on my skin, HOWEVER, I noticed little things like how softer my skin feels now compared to a month back. Any acne scars I have seem to heal much faster, and my skin has a certain glow to it. Even my skin texture feels much nicer now and applying makeup is a breeze because they glide on so smoothly onto my skin. Oil seeds seem to extract easier, and my skin is just so plump and full!

Mum casually mentioned that my skin seems brighter and I agree, my skin looks much better than it did one month ago.  Moisture wise, I don’t really know because how does one measure moisture levels? I don’t have dry patches, and my skin feels smooth and soft all day, so I’m assuming Hydraluron is doing its job. *I might need to get that device that measures moisture levels at some point*

I think Hydraluron doesn’t improve hydration in an obvious way, but does it very sneakily, because all its magic is deep down under the skin. 🙂

Is Hydraluron something I’ll continue to use? Of course, I still have 3/4 of a tube left! Repurchase? Yes! If I were to sum up Hydraluron in one word, it would be this:

Have you tried Hydraluron before? What do you think of it? Lemme know!

Hydraluron Moisture Booster is available at  Muse by Watson’s at Sunway Pyramid for RM88 (30ml).

JASPAL Fall/Winter & CPS: CHAPS 2013 Collections Showcase

Hey awesomesauces!

Now its no secret I LOVE clothes, and when I had the opportunity to attend the CPS: CHAPS & JASPAL Fall/Winter 2013 Collections Showcase, I simply HAD TO GO! *A HUGE shout-out to Kay for inviting me* I love Jaspal, I have so many pieces from them already, and I have to admit, their prices are definitely not friendly on the pocket, but its so worth it!  Their dresses are gorgeous, work friendly, and go from day to night with ease!  And the quality is amazing.

CPS:CHAPS on the other hand, was a brand I was unfamiliar with, and for a good reason, they’re a newly-launched sister label for Jaspal in Malaysia. CPS:CHAPS is a very funky brand I would say, their pieces are rock-inspired with a whole range of bold and confident apparels. They’re all about cool street wear, probably something you would see Alexa Chung wearing on a day at work. CPS:CHAPS manages to capture the essence of rock ‘n roll appeal with its distinctive aura of rebellion, customized styles and signature looks.

This time around, for their new Fall/Winter fashion line, Jaspal retains its balance of soft, feminine pieces with a professional and chic look where they’ve come up with an amazing blend of denim, nature inspired prints, flirty girly dresses which will not only leave you looking like a million bucks, but also making sure  it’s a collection that’s made for both comfort and style.
The collection also brings a fresh new look with bold prints and on-trend accessories to update any fashionista’s wardrobe as she enters the festive season.

According to Ms Wang, the General Manager of JPS Fashions Malaysia, “CPS CHAPS and JASPAL are two distinct labels which cater to different tastes as well as different moods, hence we see CPS CHAPS and JASPAL as complementary labels, giving customers a wider range of expressions to choose from,”.

The fashion launch was held at the amazing Aquasonic Club in Sunway Pyramid, and the awesome lovely Kay was hosting the event! Great job all the way hun! *Pictures Below*

The event started out with light drinks and refreshments, and then. OUT CAME THE JASPAL collection! *Pictures Below*

Some of the trends spotted during the fashion launch was sophisticated leopard and giraffe prints and inspirations on contemporary pieces, spectacular prints on dynamic silhouettes and fashion that brings out the femininity in women, such as sleeveless shift dresses and the A-line skirts, which seems to be the key items of the season.

The Denim Collection was a real winner in my eyes, I mean, its denim, who doesn’t wear denim?? Jaspal had light, defined, and comfortable shirts and even washed denim shirts with mixed materials, gorgeous skirts to flatter any body shape and type, such as high-waisted, fluted, mini, and hip-hugging. The pieces are so easy to mix and match with whatever that is in my current wardrobe! And of course, the staple for any fashionista, Jeans! All types of fits, varying from super skinny to super loose, from high-waist to super low-waist cuts! Not forgetting , the denim shorts and vests to add to your closet!  Its so easy to spice up your everyday look by just wearing the shorts over a shirt, a t-shirt, and the vests over a dress, or just to add a little pizzazz to  your cocktail dress.

Some of the key pieces I noticed in the Jaspal collection was the biker denim look, but without leather jacket. Surprisingly, it looked fab! They had a wide range of crisp and comfortable white shirts in different styles, and the leggings OMG I LOVE EM TO BITS!  A whole closet full of leggings, from the studded, printed, and the devore versions for different personal styles! Some of the other looks I noticed were cutesy chic prints on the dresses! If you’ve been wanting to find key pieces to add to your wardrobe, then I’ve found the right place for you to shop!

Next up, came the CPS:CHAPS collection! If I had no limit on my credit card, I would have bought every single piece from this collection. The pieces were so bold, vibrant, rugged and edgy! I’d be a freaking rock star goddess!  Their Fall/Winter 2013 Collection, aptly named The Look of Rock, pays tribute to the glamorous world of rock ‘n roll by combining leather, lace and bold accessories with a hint of maroon for the ultimate rockstar appeal! I feel that their broad selection of easy-to-mix separates can be polished up for office wear, jazzed up for a night out or dressed down for lazy weekends. How convenient na?
I love the fact that the clothes are so easy to match with what is already in our wardrobe, and the pieces aren’t the usual unwearable designs we see on the runway.
